Bottled water is being marketed as pure and clean by catchy ad slogans which have rooted fear in the minds of the people regarding tap water consumption.

Marketing gimmicks have boosted bottled water consumption. 1.5 million tons of plastic go into making these bottles and the manufacturing units release various toxins into the environment.

#5 HEALTH AND SAFETY

Many tests have confirmed the presence of arsenic and carcinogenic compounds in bottled water as there aren’t strict rules governing the quality.

#6 REVIEWING ECOSYSTEMS

Coca-cola, Nestle and Pepsi are earning billions of dollars by selling bottled water. Sucking spring water from underground aquifers is resulting in drying up of nearby water bodies.

#7 NESTLES’ MONOPOLY

Nestle owns water rights in several small towns and this has shot up the company’s profits.

#8 NESTLE WORLDWIDE

Nestle controls the water supply in several small towns and the local residents have to pay a heavy price for water.

#9 NESTLE CASE IN BRAZIL

Nestle bought Perrier and started bottling Poland Spring water under the label Pure Life. Excessive pumping dried up local water bodies and the Federal Government fined and stopped Nestle’s units in 2006.

#10 DESIGNER TRAP

Premium bottled water in trendy designs are being sold by Nestle claiming to have electrolytes which are easier to recycle. Nestle is fooling people by this gimmick by not accounting for other factors.

#11 JUST A FILTER!

Tap water is treated with chlorine to kill bacteria. Private companies just treat this water with filter. This can be done in homes!

#12 CALIFORNIA’S WATER

The main issue in the Californian region is whether to conserve water or to increase water supply to the region. California gets a majority of water from Sacramento over which Nestle has legal grip.

#13 PUBLIC SYSTEM’S WOES

Government bodies sell public water systems to private companies due to the deteriorating conditions and expense in maintenance.

25% of bottled water come from municipal water supply & is treated in filtration units.

The CEO of Nestle stated that water access to every human being considered a basic human right as “extreme” & wanted the water to be privatized. Where would the poor go?

WHO stated that more than one billion people lack access to clean and safe drinking water. The International Water Management Institute claims that clean water can be provided to everybody for $1.7 billion/year.

Public utilities are struggling financially to meet water standards and are selling them to private companies. This will only shoot water charges by 33%.

Goethe University has revealed that 10 brands had pollutants in the bottled water like heavy metals, disinfection byproducts and more. Buy a good filter and use instead!
